you may say I'm a dreamer....

GAH! I am in Liverpool!!! I can’t believe I have actually made the trip here. And the best part, I am staying in a real Liverpool house, enjoying the FULL experience. I could honestly burst I am so happy and in love with it here.

On Friday I arrived very late, half 11 so Jules came to collect me and we got a chance to catch up on the ride back to his place. He lives in High Town which is about 30 minutes from downtown Liverpool by train. We had a cup of tea and went to bed. Saturday I was able to sleep in but then we hit the town. He walked me around all the attractions and gave me an overview for Monday when I am free to roam the streets and see the sights all day.

We went to the Cavern Club which really did me in. Even though it wasn’t the original, I was overwhelmed with emotion that I was truly in Beatles Land and couldn’t be happier. Inside the walls are covered in signatures, there is a red telephone booth and a great homage to the Beatles. It was everything I thought it would be and it just blew my mind that I was actually there. On Monday I plan to sit and have a drink and just enjoy where I am, embracing my surroundings and make the most of them. We passed the Beatle museum which I will go into on my own on Monday. I also want to travel to Penny Lane and the Albert Dock. As well, there is Liverpool 1 which has a boatload of shopping. I feel as if I am going to get up very early so I can enjoy everything to the fullest and not be rushed.

Jules and his family have been fantastic. His niece and nephew are here so they have been keeping me busy! Keira, 5, and Conor, 8, are full of energy and are always looking for my attention. I adore them. They have red hair and are British, so, by association, they are Weasley Children! As well, their accents are amazing! I am in my glory here with the accents all around me. I heard one guy speaking with the thickest Liverpudlian accent I had ever heard and hardly understood what he said. It was awesome. I am in my element here and could probably live here just because of the people and how they speak. Everyone has been really nice and I am happy here.

Today (Sunday) Jules and I went for a walk in through some forest to a beach. It was a beautifully calm place where you could hear the wind through the trees. It reminded me a lot of cottage country in Ontario and that made me so happy inside and content with where I was. When we got to the beach, luckily it was a nice day and there were a lot of people there! Not too many swimmers (it wasn’t that nice) but people walking and just relaxing on the beach. It’s the Irish sea where we were and the water was a bit murky, but it was nice to see a beach with actual sand!

It has been an amazing weekend for me. My emotions have been all over the place, I am so relaxed and at ease, enjoying being with an English speaking family and just in awe at the fact of where I am and the places I am going. While walking down Matthew Street on Saturday I thought to myself, “wow, this place actually does exist”. It’s the most amazing feeling to be somewhere I’ve always wanted to go but never thought I would actually get to. I look forward to Rome and going back to Italy, but I can’t lie, England agrees with me, and I look forward to Scotland, Ireland and London next month.

Let it be …
